Death and Society An overview of the sociological approach to the study of death and dying. In industrialized societies, to work-and especially to earn an income-is also to gain status as an adult. History of Social Theory This course provides an overview of select major social theorists from the midth to the early 20th centuries. The change in behavior of the learner signifies that learning has occurred. The second section of the course examines various strategies of social behavior from the standpoint of these evolutionary theoretical tools.

Sociology of Law In this course we will examine the role of law in American society, particularly the relationship between legal and other institutions.
In particular, the course examines the roles of political institutions, state capacities, business, labor, citizens, political elites, and political parties in shaping national policies. Throughout the course, we consider processes of legitimation in the history of the discipline. Recently, however, attention has been paid to the power relations between the two.
